World Elder Abuse Awareness day- 15th June - free resources


The 15th June has been designated by the United Nations as World Elder Abuse awarenes day to increase knowledge and work to eliminate abuse and violence against older people worldwide.

in 2017 the theme is Violence against older persons, a human rights issue

Some sources for investigating the nature and extent of violence against older people include:

it cites evidence from a number of surveys of reports of violence against older people.

The World Health Organization also has a factsheet updated in June 2017 on elder abuse. It quotes the shocking statistics that "Around 1 in 6 older people experienced some form of abuse in the past year"

Large numbers of older women suffer abuse.
 
A 2013 UN document discusses the existing research for understanding, measuring and responding to  neglect, abuse and violence against older women.
