Here are some recommended starting points for research

United Nations Documentation Research Guides
From the United Nations Dag Hammarskjöld Library . Provides clear advice, with links, to researching UN documentation. Includes guides on specific human rights topics.


Key resources.
United Nations Digital Library official online library of the UN which contains a growing collection of full text UN documents, voting data, speeches, maps and other publications. In the future it aims to be a single access points for tracing online content, however at present , full text older materials are not all accessible. Although bibliographic references to all materials produced since 1979 are included. As a result users are advised to supplement it by using these other tracing aids

Official Document System
The official document system provides access to the full text of documents issued since 1993 and the resolutions of all principal bodies and Security Council plenary documents since 1946. Older documents are being added gradually. Treaty content is not currently available.

UNBISnet
A useful source for tracing older materials. Comprises the catalogue of United Nations documents and publications indexed by the UN Dag Hammarskjöld Library and the Library of the UN Office at Geneva. Also included are commercial publications and other non-UN sources held in the library.


UN Member States on the Record
Provides access to official documents which offer insight into the views and actions of UN Member States. Includes statements made before principal bodies, the text of draft resolutions sponsored; and periodic reports submitted on Human Rights conventions.

United NationsYearbook
Official source of information on the activities of the UN. Free access to all editions since 1946. Lists resolutions and key publications.

United Nations Treaty Collections

Statistical Data

UN Data
major statistical datasets produced by bodies of the UN. Check date of coverage for individual series as these often differ.


United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)
Produces the Human Development Report series which aims to assess the political, economic and social well-being of populations. Country profiles and data are on open access from 1990 onwards.


UNCTADStat
Free access to data from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. This is taken from the statistical annex of the World Investment Report which can be consulted on the main UNCTAD website unctad.org


UNEP Environmental Data Explorer

Free access to over 500 up to date environmental indicators used in the Global Environment Outlook report. They include data at national, regional and local levels and be displayed in a range of formats including GIS mapping.
